Is the upside down cross' association with St. Peter common knowledge?
Is the upside down cross’ association with St. Peter common knowledge enough to the point where I can where one in lieu of a St. Peter’s medallion on the outside of my shirt?
Thanks tattooma…., I’ll tuck it in.
As to the shock value claim.
I’m actually in it for the Peter symbolism. Y’know, even the best of us make mistakes, but realizing your faults and coming back to God.
And with that in mind, it is usually enough to curve my behavior.
Only for Catholics & Orthodox. But since we don’t wear the upside-down cross even as a nod to St. Peter, we’d all just think you were trying to be a shock-value-seeker. Really, the only place the upside-cross is displayed in Roman Catholic Faith — world-wide, is on the Pope’s chair. It’s there because the Pope is the successor of St. Peter.

Yeah pretty much. He didn’t want to be crucified the same way as Jesus since he wasn’t worthy.
It seems like shameless butt kissing to me.

Forgive me, but I agree with the other poster, it seems to me you might be more interested in shocking, or trying to be clever rather than trying to make a positive statement.

All symbols are understood in the context of the one perceiving it - you (and I) may understand that Peter was crucified upside-down, but you may run into some opposition from people who’ve watched too many B movies or seen a satanist wearing an upside-down cross.
I personally wear a celtic cross, which reminds me that Christ’s death brings eternal life. But some of the evangelicals at my work take it to mean an interest in wicca or the occult (why in the world would a wiccan wear a cross?) so I just keep it under my shirt, to myself.
