Even if global warming was truly happening, shouldn't we take care of current issues anyways?
Let’s assume that global warming is man-made. But how long will it take for it to have a significant effect on the climate. We contribute to global warming today much less than we did 50 years ago. http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/last_1 00_yrs.html
I just want you to look at the first graph, the one with the green dots. It shows that CO2 levels are going down. So if it takes 10 years to rise an alleged 1.3 degrees, and if that were to remain constant, it would take a few thousand years for the temperature to significantly affect the planet.
So, should we take care of current issues? If North Korea and Iran start shooting off atomic bombs, there could be a nuclear war, leading to a nuclear winter, significantly lowering the Earth’s temperature in a very short time. Shouldn’t our government and the UN, and all the citizens of the world, be more worried about a disaster that may happen in the next decade rather than something that may take effect after the human race has gone extinct?
And goodDayguy, I never actually said that I believe global warming is man-made. I believe that you’re right, and that it’s natural, but that’s not the question.
And whoever said that nukes are "a rednecks fantasy", I agree that no one wants to use nukes, but they still do. Two nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan in WWII. The soviets were doing everything they could to build a missile launching site in Cuba. Obviously, the countries want them to protect themselves (we hope), but it’ll just create an arms race, and then World War Three will start before you know it. To many countries building to many weapons started WWI, after all.
Oh, wow, I really should stop doing this stuff at 1 in the morning. Just disregard the whole graph, I put it there because it was the only one that I could find that actually had the whole planet’s CO2 levels.
"I just want you to look at the first graph, the one with the green dots. It shows that CO2 levels are going down."
Um, maybe you should take a closer look at the x-axis there bud.

But must have to care of our Planet ans Mother Nature….

Global warming is happening and the US is one of the only countries that is trying to deny it just like we are trying to deny evolution. Scientist that are not being payed by the oil companies have proved many times over that humans are causing global warming and that the earth should naturally be cooling down at this point in its history.
The gov’t is trying to handle both. If I were you I would not worry about a nuclear holocaust because the treat of nuclear bombs is all that those two countries have because they have not come up with an advanced enough system yet. Plus once they let the bombs go both leaders in those countries surely realize that they will be crushed by the world as a whole, so yah.
Global warming isnt going to effect people after the human race is extinct, its effecting us now. Scientist (the ones not funded by oil companies) Also believe that it will be at the point of no return in 2050. Once it hits this point the human race could be extinct in a matter of a few decades. Once the earth warms up even more of the frozen methane beneath the ocean floor will defrost. once this happens it will raise into the atmosphere and increase global warming 10 fold because the warming properties that CO2 has is nothing compared to Methane.
You should really start researching stuff yourself and stop listening to every thing that the news says. Glenn Beck is not a reliable source

Ohhh yeh that’s much smarter. Let’s worry about paranoid dillusions and not real issues… Since when is there a nuclear threat from Iran?? I mean a real one, not a redneck’s dream. Nobody want to use nukes… Global warming is here now and happening. That makes it a real issue, not paranoia. Global warming is already causing climate changes… So I don’t know about all that "after the human race has gone extinct" crap. The threat doesn’t have to be to the survival of the human race… Sure, we may be able to adapt. But a lot of damage can be done in the meanwhile.

John,
I agree with how you conclude this, there are a number of issues that are more critically important to us right now than Global Warming. But your assumptions and your logic just don’t jive with reality. Your assumption that global warming is man made, and even the idea that the planet is warming period are in doubt by a large and growing group of scientists. The warmest year in the last dozen was 1998, and we have been cooling since then when you look at the raw temperature data. I am not at all alone when I say I am NOT willing to concede the point that Climate Change is caused by man. Since you are tending toward rational thought on the subject I think if you will do a bit more research you will agree with me on these two points. Then from there we can attack the other bad science of the Warming Extremists.
May I suggest that you take a look at this web site.

Even the Global Warming alarmist admit that these guys have just about every angle covered when it comes to Scientific dissent to the Catastrophic Climate Change Crowd.

Global Warming is one of the current issues……

firstly, i’m not willing to cede that point. a recently completed study by a scientist at MIT shows global warming to be bunk.
secondly, the basis of the hysteria, to begin with, is a false juxtaposition of ( i believe you may be referencing the chart) the co2 content of the atmosphere with the temperature rise.
co2 follows temp, not the other way around.
additionally, in the dark ages, england could grow grapes for wine making, requiring a warmer climate. that says that we are cooling, not warming.
thirdly, google "russian scientists+torsion fields" and see what comes up.
they believe the entire galaxy is going through one, accounting for the irregularity of sun cycles, increasing temps not only on earth but every other planet in the solar system.- you may have to do it on pravda/english…where journalism Really IS alive and well, unlike american papers.(who only print news that fits their agenda)
also algore’s math was wrong. even an increase of co2 that he claims will happen in the next fifty years will result only in a .0190 of an inch rise in sea levels in 50 years.
the bottom line:
awg is a fraud. kyoto is an attempt to steal american money for the u.n. and third world countries, as is all..ALL world climate discussion. an attempt to make neccesary one world government’s dominion above the constitution and over America.
